Our Team

Digitata’s staff comprises some 150 skilled employees based in 13 locations around the globe, with our head office in Mauritius and our main development centre in South Africa. Our experienced management team is headed up by the following group of executives.

Patrick Lee Mo Lin was appointed as Director for Digitata in December 2016, before that he has been serving as an Alternate Director to Mr. Malcolm Moller for Digitata since July 2011.

Patrick is also the Managing Director of Estera Management (Mauritius) Limited, Estera Trust (Mauritius) Limited and Estera Corporate Services (Seychelles) Limited. Having joined the Estera group in February 2007, he was at the forefront of setting up the firm, drawing up policies as well as establishing a human resource framework to support first class service level benchmarks.

He has worked on various company formations, structures and transactions involving financing, investment funds, hedge funds, private equity funds, trading companies and technological development. With more than sixteen years of experience in international business, he has developed a sound capability of handling many aspects of international business which includes knowledge of finance, customer service, managerial skills and providing solutions to the best interest of an evolving clientele.

Patrick is an Associate of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) as well as a Fellow of The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). Patrick is also a member of the Mauritius Institute of Professional Accountants (MIPA) and a member of the Mauritius Institute of Directors (MIoD).

Patrick attended the General Management Program for Executives, held at the National University of Singapore in 2006 and has contributed to various international publications, including the BNA International Global Tax Guide issued by BNA International, which provides a complete set of information on the economic features of Mauritius and on the tax regime in place.

Prior to joining Estera (formerly Appleby), Patrick was the Head of the Client Accounting department of a leading fiduciary company. Before that, he started his career in 1997 as an auditor at Deloitte, specialising in internal controls and forensic audit.

Ted joined Digitata as CEO in January 2009. He was appointed Executive Vice Chairman in 2015, after Digitata Limited acquired a controlling stake in Rorotika Technologies.

He has a recent history of establishing and commercialisation of startup companies in the software, telecommunications and oil exploration industries (focusing on new technology developments), having been involved in 5 companies over the last 10 years.

Ted holds an MSc in Chaos Theory from University of New Brunswick, Canada and a BSc in Surveying Engineering from the University of Natal, South Africa.

Tinus was appointed Group CEO of Digitata Limited in 2015 following Digitata’s acquisition of a controlling stake in Rorotika Technologies. Prior to that he was CEO of Rorotika Technologies. Tinus was a co-founder of Rorotika Technologies and a director since the company was founded in 2006. Before taking on the CEO’s mantle at Rorotika, Tinus served as Strategic Solutions Director for Digitata Ltd. Prior to this, he was on secondment in Sweden (contracted to Digitata partner, Ericsson AB), where he assumed accountability for pre-sales activities on Ericsson’s Dynamic Discount Solution globally. Before this, Tinus served as CIO at Rorotika for 4 years.

He also previously worked for MTN SA as a software consultant for some 6 years and contracted with Vodacom SA. Tinus has fulfilled leading roles in determining product strategy and positioning, software architecture, technologies and design principles as well as application design. Tinus has developed an in-depth knowledge of, and gained exceptional experience in the telecommunications industry. He holds a B.Sc Information Technology (Computer Science) degree from the University of Pretoria.

Jacques was appointed CFO of Digitata in April 2015

After completing his articles at a small audit firm, he held a number of senior financial positions at Imperial Logistics, DHL, the New Forests Company and Digby Wells.

Jacques has a broad range of experience across many industries and countries in Africa from the transport and warehousing sectors to greenfields forestry as well as environmental consulting for the mining industry.

Jacques is a Chartered Accountant (CA, SA) since 2004 and holds a B.Com and B.Com (Honours) from the University of Pretoria, South Africa.

Claudia took up the position of Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of Digitata Limited in April 2015.

With over 25 years in big and small Telecoms and Technology enterprises, Claudia has earned a reputation for achieving results through a unique combination of transformational leadership, aggressive P&L management, and skilled people management.

After receiving her Bachelor degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from Cornell University, followed by a Master of Science in Computer Science from Northwestern University, Claudia started her career in Bell Laboratories in R&D. She continued on with AT&T, Lucent Technologies, Nokia, and Ericsson and then segued into smaller companies such as Acision and Aircom International before joining Digitata. She’s held a wide variety of roles including Business Management, Business Development, Operations, and P&L ownership.

Along the way, she was also awarded the prestigious Congressional Fellowship from Brookings Institute Washington, D.C.

Willie was appointed COO in 2015 following Digitata’s acquisition of a controlling stake in Rorotika Technologies. Before that he served as Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Rorotika. Prior to that he served as Chief Architect since 2007. Before joining Rorotika, Willie worked for 9 years with MTN South Africa as a Systems Engineer and Software Developer, and before that with ATIO and the University of Pretoria, South Africa.

He has played leading roles in data warehousing projects including PM, CM and CDR data for both 2G and 3G systems. Willie has developed in-depth knowledge and experience in the telecoms arena.

Conal joined Digitata as a Director in 2009 and also holds the position of Chief Marketing Officer, focusing on the marketing aspects, including the company message, image and branding.

Before joining Digitata he acted as an independent advisor to various companies in the telecommunications industry. Prior to this, he held the role of Technical Director at Actix, focusing on the take-to-market strategy of their network optimisation tools. Previously, Conal was the Technical Director at ComOpt, responsible for the development of automatic frequency and cell planning tools.

He started his career at MTN South Africa where he formed part of the Radio Network Planning and Optimisation team.

Currently a non-executive director, Des Griggs served as Exec: Dynamic Tariffing since 2015. He joined Digitata as COO in 2009 from his position as CTO of Rorotika Technologies, a post which he held for 2 years and focused extensively on Dynamic Tariffing.

Prior to his years at Rorotika and Digitata, he spent 13 years with MTN working on various projects within the Network Group, but primarily he was a Technical Specialist in the area of Radio Planning & Optimisation. During his time at MTN Des participated in the commercialisation of a number of software applications.

Des holds an MSc in Physics & Electronics from Rhodes University, South Africa and a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.

Hilton currently holds the position of Exec: Digitata Innovations. He was previously appointed Strategic Solutions Director at Digitata in August 2012. Hilton is a co-founder of Rorotika Technologies where he held the positions of COO, CTO and CEO betweeen 2006 and 2012.

Prior to that he spent some 13 years with MTN South Africa where he gained extensive expertise in Radio Network Planning and Optimisation in his various positions as Programme Director, General Manager and National Manager, amongst others. He also worked in the area of VHF/UHF Radio Propagation Services during a 6 year tenure at the CSIR. Hilton has accumulated some 25 years of experience in the telecoms industry.

He holds an MSc in Electronic Engineering from the University of Natal and has authored numerous papers for presentation at cellular industry conferences. He is also an external examiner and mentor for university students.

Philip holds the position of CEO: Digitata Networks. He brings with him some 19 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, having worked for multiple operators and vendors, and obtained in-depth knowledge of Mobile operations and OEM Vendor interactions. He has extensive knowledge of the Sub-Saharan telecommunications market and its major players and decision makers. Prior to joining Digitata, Philip worked for Concurrent Systems as independent telecoms consultant. Before that he spent 4 years with Aircom International (Africa) as VP Sales for Africa, and then as Managing Director. He has also held positions at Astellia, mCel Mozambique, Lucent, Motorola and Siemens.

Philip holds a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (High Frequency) from the Technical University Pretoria as well as a Bachelor of Science Technology Management from Hanze Hogeschool Van Gronigen.

Richard Walton took over the role of CEO: Digitata Insights in October 2016. He is an entrepreneurial thinker and a technical fanatic (geek) with over 15 years experience in technology-based solutions in the mobile, insurance, banking, payments and telecoms industries in which he built products and businesses with like-minded professionals. He has specialist experience in both business/commercial development and product/technical development gained over the past 15 years. Richard’s strengths include building new products from scratch including initial launch and growth phases and motivating a passionate team to deliver, a skill which he believes is unique.

Richard has presented thought leadership at various conferences including AfricaCom, AppsWorld, Mobile Money Africa and VAS Africa on the subject of mobile apps and payments.

JJ Botha holds the position of Executive: Dynamic Tariffing. A creative and energetic senior executive with over 10 years’ experience operating at C-suite level, JJ has multi-country experience in Africa as well as in India and Mexico.

Before joining Digitata, JJ acquired some 17 years’ experience working in the telecoms industry as well as 3 years’ in the insurance industry. He served as Executive Director: New Business and Product for Telesure Investment Holdings. Prior to that he held various managing executive and chief roles at Vodacom South Africa, having a strong finance, consumer sales, product and services focus. He has also served as a Group Exec: International, Business and Strategy at Blue Label Telecoms and CEO at Blue Label One.

JJ holds a Bcompt Honours in Accounting and Finance from UNISA and is a Chartered Accountant registered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of South Africa.
