JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA, 1 AUGUST 2017:  Digitata Networks (Pty) Ltd is pleased to announce the acquisition of certain assets from RanWorx Solutions, including the intellectual property rights in and to NetTrax (rebranded to NetCE) and TecTonix (rebranded to NetPA). The addition of these innovative solutions to the Digitata Networks portfolio allows Digitata Networks to offer Mobile Network Operators both a network-centric and subscriber-centric view of their network performance, enabling operators to better manage and optimise their networks, improving subscribers’ satisfaction and retention.

Since 2009, Digitata has provided intelligent vendor-agnostic network configuration management, performance- or revenue-monitoring and asset tracking products, services and solutions to transparently monitor, control and automate all major mobile technologies across multiple domains.

Combining Digitata Networks’ network-centric solutions (NetCM and NetVU) with the newly-acquired customer-centric solution (NetCE) will enable operators to have a clear line of sight to their subscribers and their actual experience on the network.  The ability to measure the subscribers’ experience and correlate it with the relevant network node’s configuration and performance, will greatly assist operators in their daily operation.

Further to this, adding the newly-acquired passive asset tracking solution (NetPA) to Digitata Networks’ active asset management solution (NetAM) will allow operators to discover and track all network assets (both active and passive) throughout their network.

Philip Korf, CEO of Digitata Networks said: “Digitata Networks is delighted to conclude the acquisition of the intellectual property rights to NetTrax (now NetCE) and TecTonix (now NetPA).  The synergies between the newly-acquired NetCE and NetPA and Digitata Networks’ existing solutions ensure a combined offering that will be of great benefit to our current and future customers”.

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA, 24 OCTOBER 2016: Mastercard in collaboration with Digitata Insights, a subsidiary of Digitata, recently launched a gamification campaign to educate South Africans on the benefits of making safe, secure and fast payments with Masterpass, the global digital payment service from Mastercard.

The interactive game – “The Masterpass Race” – showed South African consumers the benefits of Masterpass across digital payments channels including airtime top-up, online purchases, bill payments and in-store payments. It also demonstrated the security features, convenience and ease of use people will find in Masterpass—including the fact that they can pay with a smart app on their smartphones and leave their physical wallets at home.

“We at Mastercard are innovating faster than ever before in our efforts to make digital payments simpler, more secure, and more accessible,” says Gabriel Swanepoel, Product Development and Innovation, Mastercard. “To create widespread adoption of our Masterpass solution, we looked for a unique, fun and engaging platform to bring its benefits to life for consumers. Gamification was a perfect opportunity to educate consumers about how digital payments can improve their lives.”

To participate, subscribers had to dial a USSD short code. Players earned points for by answering questions relating to information supplied in the game about mobile and cashless payments and Masterpass, and completed actions such as downloading and using the Masterpass app. Accumulating points got players to the next level of the game and points could be converted into airtime.

Richard Walton, acting CEO at Digitata Insights, says: “Gamification – the incorporation of game play into online marketing – is an extremely effective way to keep mobile users engaged, offering the ideal opportunity to educate them in an interactive manner. The fact that players could receive free airtime ensured continued engagement and made the game extremely popular.”

Digitata Insights developed the USSD-based gamification service using the company’s MeMe measurable mobile media platform. “Text-based USSD was the ideal channel as all mobile users are familiar with the *111# service. It is also a prolific channel because it is device and network agnostic, which means there is potential to deliver bespoke content to a huge market, all without the subscriber incurring any charges as no data is required.”

To ensure the broadest reach, Digitata Insights partnered with South Africa’s two largest network operators, gaining access to millions of potential customers. The results from the campaign were impressive: more than 398,595 people started the race and some 153,000 reached the finishing line by completing all 17 levels in the game.

“Overall we feel that the Masterpass campaign was on par with some of the biggest USSD-based consumer engagement campaigns run globally,” says Walton. “And despite this form of mobile marketing being around for 15 years already, we’re not aware of any other campaigns that have been able to generate these numbers. We therefore feel that we’ve taken USSD-based marketing to the next level, and are now starting to realise the full potential that this form of mobile engagement has always held.”

Digitata Limited Placed in the Red Herring Top 100 Global

Red Herring Global100 WinnerPORT LOUIS, MAURITIUS, 27 NOVEMBER 2013: Digitata Limited is pleased to have been included in the Red Herring Top 100 Global list of companies. According to Red Herring, the Top 100 Global honours the year’s most audacious and far reaching private technology companies and entrepreneurs from across the globe.

The Red Herring editorial team selects the companies demonstrating the most innovative technologies and business models originating from over 1000 companies from over 40 nations. These companies, representing past Red Herring Asia, Europe and North America awards, are judged on a range of qualitative and quantitative metrics, including but not limited to, technology innovation, financial performance, growth criterion, management’s execution standards, potential globalization of the strategy and market share improvement.

“Choosing the companies with the strongest potential was by no means a small feat,” said Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring. “After rigorous contemplation and discussion, we narrowed our list down from hundreds of candidates from across the globe to the Top 100 Winners. We believe Digitata Limited embodies the vision, drive and innovation that define a successful entrepreneurial venture. Digitata should be proud of its accomplishment, as the competition was the strongest it has ever been.”

The Red Herring Global Top 100 Winners were announced on the evening of November 20 at the Red Herring Global 2013 Forum in Santa Monica, California.

Digitata is the creator of the Dynamic Tariffing™ System (DTS), which was the first dynamic pricing product to be launched commercially by a mobile operator (launched by MTN Swaziland in 2007).

The Digitata Dynamic Tariffing™ System is software that enables a mobile telecommunications operator to offer dynamically varying tariffs to their prepaid subscribers based on the analysis of available network resources, local demographics and current socio-economic conditions.

Digitata’s Dynamic Tariffing™ System is an innovation that brings mobile telephony within reach of a socio-economic group that was previously excluded by price, thereby narrowing the “Digital Divide” (the disparity between access to telecommunications in the developing world compared with that in the developed world). Using the Dynamic Tariffing™ System, mobile network operators are able to offer telephony for as little as 1% of the usual tariff in certain areas and at certain times of the day.

Mr Conal Lewer-Allen (CCO of Digitata Limited) said, “We are delighted that Digitata has been included in the Red Herring Top 100 Global list of companies. Enabling technologies like Dynamic Tariffing™, that place mobile telecommunications within reach of most of the population, also drive developing countries to leap-frog over the fixed line barrier to connectivity. Now offering Dynamic Tariffing for Data, Digitata brings the same benefits to mobile broadband, right at a time when low cost smartphones are entering the market.”

Digitata Offers First Commercially Available, End-To-End Dynamic Tariffing™ Solution for Data

PORT LOUIS, MAURITIUS, 30 May 2012: Digitata Limited, already known for their revolutionary Dynamic Tariffing™ solution, announced today the first end-to-end Dynamic Tariffing™ data solution to be offered commercially. The solution is currently being offered commercially to a closed user group by MTN Swaziland.

Digitata’s new patent-pending data solution focuses on customer communication and control. Communication with the subscriber is via a widget (see figure below) and, for the first time, the subscriber can control their own data usage according to discounts offered on the network. The control options can also be managed by a third party, allowing (for example) parents to retain some control over their children’s data usage.

MTN branded mobile handset data widget

The solution offers a win-win situation, contributing towards the flattening of network usage peaks, while at the same time providing a better value proposition for operators, and making data more affordable to subscribers. This in turn leads to increased subscriber numbers and revenue.

With few integration points, the solution can be deployed quickly, reducing time to market.

Mr Ted Bartlett, CEO of Digitata Limited, expressed his excitement about the new data offering being commercially implemented in MTN Swaziland. He explains, “Data usage is expanding rapidly and presents challenges to mobile operators, amongst others. Recognising the importance of controlling usage, together with the commonly encountered “Bill Shock” that customers experience, Digitata has approached the problem in a manner that is mutually beneficial. Digitata’s is the first data solution to offer the customer control over their data spending down to application type, and to use a metric that everyone understands – cost. By using data smartly, users consume far more discerningly and willingly adjust behaviour in a manner that is beneficial to the operators. Solving this problem and launching a commercial solution is a significant achievement and one that Digitata is proud to be a global leader in”.

Mr Anand Naidoo, CTO of MTN Swaziland, said: “MTN Swaziland is proud to be the first to launch Digitata’s revolutionary Dynamic Tariffing™ Data solution. The solution offers a powerful tool to regulate network utilization, by incentivizing subscribers to change their data usage behavior. This will also enable MTN Swaziland to monetize unused internet capacity, especially during off-peak hours, thereby effectively utilizing the already very expensive internet bandwidth. Our subscribers will immediately realize direct benefits by getting more value for their money.”

The success of the company continued with additional products and services, including the launch of FaxMail in March 2003, an SMS information service, Virtual Recharge and Call Back services. In 2006, MTN launched ‘Access 90′, a product that gave subscribers up to 90 days’ free access.
